John Brown, a general contractor who started Proper-T home Improvements in San Diego15 years ago, is most proud that “what I do best, is I listen better than anyone. And I’m available more than anyone.”

Direct and effective communication is a luxury he affords his clients.  No question is too small for an open ear.   He prides himself on being accessible at all times. And as for his work, “which I love and put my heart into,” Brown says, whether it be a room or second-story addition, bathroom or kitchen remodel, “I’m a quality of life changer.” He does high-end work in San Diego, and especially enjoys interacting with homeowners “who aren’t afraid to be unique.”

What gives him the greatest satisfaction are happy customers. He cheerfully offers “tons of advice,” always keeping in mind it is the client’s home. Brown considers himself “a start-to-finish guy.” Another asset he brings to his business is unlimited patience. “I really care about my customers, and I always strive to give them more than they are expecting.  I love the little extra details of design and finishing…from the smallest detail that goes unnoticed (but is necessary and essential), to the final detail that will wow the crowd.  Brown’s wife, Michele, is also personally involved in every aspect of the business — “from managing the office,  to the day they throw their company parties.”  Together they turn clients into friends.
